A BIT ABOUT ANDREA SMITH
In December 2017 graduating a semester early, I attained my degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in New Media Entrepreneurship and Innovation from The Pennsylvania State University. This fall, I will commence my master’s degree at City, University of London with a focus in International Journalism.
From a young age, I would rush home from school to watch Oprah. I specifically enjoyed her vision and the concept behind her show; it was personalized and viewers could relate to it. I would continuously imagine myself carving out a path in a similar manner. Oprah’s journey from a humble and tough childhood to her success as a reporter, hosting her own daytime talk show and ultimately owning a magazine and a television network has motivated me to keep striving to be the best version of me.

A dream of mine has always been to work preferably in the entertainment business as an anchor, a reporter or TV personality, but I have never limited myself to just the entertainment industry. I have been working towards this dream since I was an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Candidate at Seneca Valley High School, by showing a strong interest in IB Film, IB English and IB French.

My interest in the journalism began with a passion in ballet and modern dance at a young age. Reputable television shows such as The Oprah Winfrey Show, Ellen and Access Hollywood greatly influenced me as well. This desire to be a Broadcast Journalist only heightened as I became more keenly interested in my courses and gained experience from multiple internships I have completed.
One day I aspire to be a news anchor and/or a TV personality. I intend to work my way up to becoming the head of a news outlet in a particular region and ultimately bring a news outlet to a country where it does not already exist. But my aspirations do not stop here.

ANDREA'S WORK
My Journalistic Journey
My work is diverse, and my style is unique. While at Penn State I have used my IB skills to produce, record, write and edit all my work. I have examples portraying me as a filmmaker, editor, producer and journalist in television, radio and print. Limiting myself to one facet of journalism has never been an option for me. Remaining well-rounded and open minded to the different planes of journalism and the multimedia industry has always intrigued me.
